Melchior D'Hondecoeter specialized in depicting birds, especially poultry and exotic birds, from different parts of the world, sitting on a balustrade or walking in a park.
His work is very decorative in nature: Not just cockatoos and geese, but he always chose males with the most beautiful plumage.
D'Hondecoeter was a successful painter from 1636 to 1695 (Utrecht-Amsterdam)
